Our Investment Committee manages customized strategies designed for each client’s specific needs.  Each member uses his extensive experience to provide both our team and our clients prudent, informed investment solutions.  Using a variety of tactical allocations, the team works together to construct and manage portfolios consisting of fixed income, equity, real estate, and derivative securities to achieve our clients' unique objectives.

  • Page G. Lea Managing Director, Capes Capital Management, Inc.
    Page Lea is a Managing Director of Monroe Capital's Norfolk based affiliate Capes Capital Management, Inc. For the past 10 years, Page has served as a Principal and the President of Capes Capital, a registered investment advisory firm managing assets for high net worth clients since 1991. Page is a former vice president of TeleCable Corporation, where he had responsibilities in financial management, acquisitions and business process improvement. Page has also served as a vice president of Landmark Communications and was involved in investment management, new ventures analysis and business development. Page served as the former chairman of Wynd Communications Corporation, a wireless communications company providing nationwide two-way data communications services for the deaf and hard of hearing population. He oversaw the merger of Wynd into GoAmerica Corporation, a publicly traded wireless internet access and data services company. Currently, Page serves as vice president of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia Foundation and is a board member of the Greater Norfolk Corporation. He is a former board member and board finance chair for Westminster-Canterbury Corporation in Virginia Beach. Page is also a former Vice Chairman of the Virginia Beach Development Authority. Page was a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received both his B.A. and M.B.A. degrees. He has over 14 years of portfolio management experience. Page and his wife Connie have two adult children and live in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
  • J. Mark Monroe Managing Director & Chief Investment Officer, Monroe Capital Partners, LLC & Capes Capital Management, Inc.
    Mark Monroe is Managing Director, Chief Investment Officer and founder of Monroe Capital Partners, LLC. Monroe Capital Partners is a registered investment advisory firm that provides highly customized asset management services to high net worth individuals and institutions. He is also Managing Director of Monroe Capital's investment advisory affiliate Capes Capital Management, Inc. located in Norfolk, VA. Together, the two firms, now commonly owned and operated, manage over $115 Million of client assets. Prior to founding Monroe Capital, Mark was President of Chesapeake Financial Group, Inc. for 15 years and President of its parent holding company Chesapeake Investment Group, Inc. for 5 years. Under his leadership, the firm’s assets under management in its asset management and trust subsidiaries grew from $80 Million to over $345 Million. During his tenure with Chesapeake, Mark's additional roles included serving as Chief Investment Officer, Chief Compliance Officer and Chairman of the Investment Group's Investment Committee. He was an Investment Officer for Fidelity Investments Asset Management and Trust Division responsible for over $240 Million in discretionary client relationships. Mark currently serves on both the Williamsburg Community Foundation and Hampton Roads Academy's Boards of Trustees. He was past President of Chesapeake Academy Foundation Board and was a member of Williamsburg Land Conservancy Board. Mark graduated from North Carolina State University with B.S. degree in Statistics and a B.S. in Economics. He is a member of the CFA Society Virginia, a CFA Institute member society, and has over 26 years of portfolio management experience. Mark is a native of Virginia’s Northern Neck and currently lives in Williamsburg with his wife Maura and their two children who are both attending college.
  • Douglas D. Monroe, III Director, Monroe Capital Partners, LLC
    Doug Monroe is a Director of Monroe Capital Partners, LLC and a member of its Investment Committee. Doug has over thirty years of experience in corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions, private equity, and investment management with Wachovia, Bowles Hollowell Conner & Co., Wheat First Butcher & Singer, Ewing Monroe Bemiss & Co., Wells Fargo & Company, and Chesapeake Advisors. He served as the Managing Director of the Merger & Acquisition Group of Wheat First, as a Founder and Managing Director of Ewing Monroe and Chesapeake Advisors, and as a Senior Vice President Wealth Advisor of Wells Fargo. He currently serves as Managing Director of Chesapeake Advisors, and unaffiliated private equity and business consulting company. He received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead Scholar, and his M.B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Virginia. Doug was also a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and earned a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, along with multiple securities licenses. His board/trustee associations include the American Civil War Center, the Center for the Study of the American South, the Historic Richmond Foundation, Jacob’s Ladder, Peter Paul Development Center, St. John’s Church Foundation, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, UNC Educational Foundation, and Woodberry Forest School. Doug and his wife have three adult children and reside in Richmond.
  • David E. Thiel Portfolio Manager, Capes Capital Management, Inc.

    David Thiel is a Vice President and Portfolio Manager with Monroe Capital’s Norfolk based affiliate Capes Capital Management, Inc.

     

    David has held a number of senior executive positions in the public and private sectors. Prior to joining Capes Capital in March of 2003, David was a senior executive with Eastern Virginia Medical School for 25 years as the Director of Finance and then as Vice President for Administration and Finance. He also served those 15 years as an officer of the EVMS Board of Visitors as Assistant Treasurer. Concurrently, David was Chief Financial Officer of the Eastern Virginia Medical School Foundation and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees where he was responsible for all business, financial and investment matters to the Foundation Investment Committee. His past also includes being Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of First Hospital Corporation as well as service with Goodman & Company CPA’s.

     

    He currently serves on the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Treasurer, Audit Committee Chairman and Investment Committee Vice Chairman of the General Douglas MacArthur Foundation. Past community service includes board and officer positions with the Eastern Virginia Health Services Foundation, Pediatric Faculty Associates, The Center for Pediatric Research, Hampton Roads Research Partnership, Physicians for Peace, Community Mental Health Center/Community Service Board, Jones Institute Foundation for Reproductive Medicine, The Old Dominion Intercollegiate Foundation and The Salvation Army Tidewater Command Advisory Board.

     

    David received his B.S. degree in Business Administration from Old Dominion University with honors. After graduation, he earned his Certified Public Accountant (CPA).  David has over 25 years of portfolio management experience.

     

    David is a life long resident of Eastern Virginia now residing in Norfolk, Virginia with his wife Robyn. He has two adult daughters also living in Norfolk.
